This off-season is slightly different from off-seasons past. Still in the first year of operation, Behind the Board DJ Entertainment is DEFINITELY evolving. It’s a challenge to move from being a sub-contractor to running my own DJ Entertainment Service.
When you love what you do, you take that challenge and you surround yourself with people who have done it themselves or are currently experiencing the same journey that you’re embarking on. You remind yourself of why you’re doing what you do and you try to remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. You remind yourself to be patient, yet optimistic. You talk with people that you trust to be honest with you in an effort to remain grounded.
You also begin making connections with people who will hopefully become allies: other wedding vendors. Referrals are ANY entrepreneur’s bread and butter and I now need to learn to do a better job of making and cultivating those connections. The biggest key for what I hope to accomplish with Behind the Board DJ Entertainment is the referrals from previous clients and their guests. My vision requires word-of-mouth in order to succeed. It’s how I’ve operated as a sub-contractor; it’s paramount that this is how I move forward as a business owner.
Building a brand takes time and effort. The look, the feel of Behind the Board is VERY important to me. I want to distinguish my company from any other company that is out there. Simply put, I want Behind the Board DJ Entertainment to have a particular personality. I have colleagues that are helping me cement my vision for the business; people who have talents that I need to develop. Over the next several weeks, I intend to share some of the behind-the-scenes happenings. Those moments will be about the look and feel. That said, the personality only takes a back seat to The Product itself. Entertainment That Engages is NOT just the tagline. It’s how I see myself as a DJ, whether I’m doing a school function, a company party or a wedding reception. Focusing on the product is an ongoing task; I believe that I’m up to it.
As the owner, I have goals for BtB. They’re not solely about growing the business; they’re about doing something bigger than myself. Those goals are about fulfilling a dream; sharing my love of being a wedding DJ with others (whether clients, colleagues or casual observers) is integral to that fulfillment.
This is the time of year where MANY engagements happen. There are couples out there who will decide that it’s time to “make it official.” They ALL want someone to help them celebrate the evolution of their story as a couple. I LOVE being a part of that day and I hope to play a role in MANY wedding celebrations in 2017 and beyond.
For those that chose Behind the Board DJ Entertainment this year (and in previous years), I sincerely thank you once again. For those who have already chosen Behind the Board to take care of you in 2017, I GREATLY appreciate it and look forward to your celebrations. To those of you who are on the fence, that aren’t sure if Behind the Board deserves the chance… I’d LOVE to discuss with you how BtB and yours truly may be of service.
The evolution continues…
