Recently engaged?  Has the initial euphoria worn off, replaced by the realization that you have to roll up your sleeves and dig into planning?  What’s the first thing on your list?  Probably setting the date.  The second thing?  Most likely figuring out what site is going to serve as the host for one of the most memorable days of your life.

If you live in Minnesota, especially in the Twin Cities metro area, you may have heard of the Dellwood Country Club.  I’ve had the privilege of working events at Dellwood Country Club for a number of years now.  The catering staff is among the best that I’ve ever worked with and the venue itself is as warm and inviting a location for a wedding as any I’ve ever seen.  Not only can they host your reception; Dellwood Country Club can also host your wedding ceremony.

Bry Athmann, Dellwood Country Club’s Events Manager, was kind enough to answer a few questions for the BtB Blog.
Author’s Note: Some answers paraphrased for clarity.

What led to you becoming an Event Coordinator?
I’ve always loved putting events together ever since I was younger, and figured what better way then to do it on a daily basis!

What do you love most about your job?
I love the consistency but change every day.  All weddings and events have their own unique touches and when a couple finds a new trend or idea, just makes it that much more fun!

What is your favorite/most memorable event?
Holiday parties always are new and exciting for me, as corporate always does things different with themes and games that I don’t usually get to see on the (wedding) weekends.  Coolest thing I’ve had at a wedding though was a flamethrower/fire performance and a Zumba instructor.

Can you tell me of a time where you saved the day?
Oh boy.  First one that comes to mind was when a cake wasn’t stored properly in a fridge and was completely destroyed.  (I) took a nice, quick trip to the bakery and got a new one- no one knew.  Second is fires.  I’ve had gifts and centerpieces go up in flames, so putting those out/fixing the centerpieces so that no one knew things had burned to pieces.

What is/are your favorite wedding trend(s) right now?
I’m a sucker for sparkles, so any wedding with a little extra sparkle wins me over, but I also love huge tall centerpieces or the use of creative guest books instead of the standard book or photo booth option.

What makes Dellwood Country Club unique among wedding venues?
There are several little things that make us different than other venues.  One thing I aim to make us unique is our flexibility in menus, set-up and just trying to make every couple’s day as easy as possible.  The day is so stressful as it is; if I can help ease that stress throughout the planning process, I can go home a happy planner!

I’d like to thank Bry for taking the time to answer my questions.  If you’re looking for a site for your event, don’t hesitate to check out the Dellwood Country Club at
